Beligala puja perahara

 

Beligala Rajamaha Viharaya is a place of miracles.In the past, King 111 Vijaya Bahu  placed the Tooth Relic of the Buddha at Beligala.A branch of the Bo tree where the Buddha was enlightened is also planted here.There is an alms bowl of the Buddha in the temple.

It has been the custom of the villagers of Beligala to hold the Vesak Poya Perahera as a vow to the Buddha since ancient times.In memory of Sujatha's milk and rice offering, a morning flower procession carrying milk and a night pooja procession are held.

This perahera is held with the participation of seven villages. Beligala is the only place in Sri Lanka where 7 peraheras are held on the same day.

Beligala

 Wadukanda

  Bodawala 

Katukurunda

Matiyagane

The flower procession arrives at the temple grounds in the morning with seven milk rice. This procession is simple.

 Seaven Pooja Maha Perahera is

 held   with  dances.

Many people have gathered 

at the temple to watch it.

The procession concludes with a final procession the day after the night procession.

These villagers have been united for centuries because of this procession. I too have been blessed to be born with such a legacy. On the Vesak Poya day, all the people of the village, big and small, dedicate themselves to the Perahera and give their energy to it.

I am waiting for a procession to come again after these issues are over ..
